The Top 3 Sci-Fi Characters Ever

The fascination with science fiction is the drawing power of the characters. Where would Star Wars be without the iconic Darth Vader, or the Aliens movies without Lt. Ripley? Here are the Top 3 Sci-fi characters in television and movies.
1. Captain James Tiberius Kirk. This may seem to be an obvious choice, and to some it may seem like a cop out. But is there anyone cooler in the world – nay, the UNIVERSE! – that can rival the immortal Bill Shatner? I love the man; in fact there is no one that can even close to the sheer glory that is Shatner. And what character made Bill who he is? No, it’s not T.J Hooker. Captain Kirk took us all into the unknown of space. He was our captain, our friend, and our confidant. His “cowboy diplomacy” was a beacon. To compare this to Captain Picard of the Enterprise D would be an insult to the great man. Kirk shall live for eternity in reruns if not our hearts.
2. Zaphod Beeblebrox. The President of the Galaxy from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy “trilogy” should be the model for all politicians. Whether in the timeless books or in the reasonable movie adaptation (played by the ever skilful Sam Rockwell) Zaphod is a true inspiration in a satirical way, and a great parody of the modern inept politician. His humour, futuristic mizuno running shoes, and his clueless antics are some of the best moments of the series.
3. Malcolm Reynolds. The captain of Serenity on the short lived Fox television show Firefly was a great captain, played by Nathan Fillion. The show’s greatest strength is the closeness of the nine characters, and Mal functions as their lovable yet strong willed patriarch. He is brash, rude, yet at the same time, loving and nurturing. Like in true sci-fi form, his ship is a true home that I wish I was a member of its crew.
