The Rise and Fall of Star Wars

The Rise and Fall of Star Wars

Ahh Star Wars. The original three were my favourite movies as a child and are still some of my favourite movies to this day. The universe, the look and the stories as well as the characters were brilliant. Which little boy, or even grown man, doesn’t want to see huge battles in space between futuristic spaceships and lightsaber battles between mystical warrior monks? I haven’t met any man who doesn’t instantly become 10 years old again when watching those movies and that is part of what makes them so great.

Of course people cried out for more Star Wars movies to be made, and it took Mr Lucas around 30 years to get round to making them. When ’The Phantom Menace'came out the world went Star Wars crazy and millions flocked to see the movie. I can quite easily say that anyone who watched the original three left the cinemas truly disappointed. The last thirty minutes were the only decent minutes in a movie that suffered from tragic acting, a poor storyline and an awful script (something Lucas has always produced).

’Attack of the Clones'also suffered from the same issues and left audiences around the world widely disappointed once again. Some former glory was restored with ’Revenge of the Sith'which was by far the best received of the latest trilogy of Star Wars movies. It was full of action and showed us, finally, how Anakin Skywalker eventually became Darth Vader.

Despite the success of Episode III and the massive success of the original Episodes IV, V and VI, the damage to the Star Wars franchise and Lucas'ability to create good Star Wars movies has been done. There is talk of creating Episodes VII VIII and IX, which I think would be tragic to do. The story is an epic one and didn’t need any more than the original three movies. Please stop making Star Wars movies Mr Lucas.

It is my cousin graduation coming up, and she has just told me what she wanted as a present. She suggested a new green bum bag for her next trip, I just need to deduce where to get it now.
