Progress Or Not?

Written by admin at 10:41 am

I love a good sci-fi film. But sci-fi films aren’t what they once were. Since CGI became the norm everything’s gotten smoother, sleeker, and altogether better … lines and wrinkles have vanished … But at what price?

Better–Or so the makers of these films would have you believe. In my opinion all this CGI business has robbed films in general of their believability: yes, it has made things possible which before were unfathomable, but at the same time it has Read the rest of this entry »

The Top 3 Sci-Fi Characters Ever

The fascination with science fiction is the drawing power of the characters. Where would Star Wars be without the iconic Darth Vader, or the Aliens movies without Lt. Ripley? Here are the Top 3 Sci-fi characters in television and movies.

1. Captain James Tiberius Kirk. This may seem to be an obvious choice, and to some it may seem like a cop out. But is there anyone cooler in the world – nay, the UNIVERSE! – that can rival the Read the rest of this entry »

D Word

Those working Jobs in secondary education will have seen sad, anxious and depressed teenagers much and often. But here’s the question: how can you accurately tell if someone (a teenager or otherwise) is merely sad, or utterly depressed? It’s a problem which has dogged society since the dawn of time and here’s the worst part: as children gain access to more and more technology at a younger age they can not only read more about how to cover the signs Read the rest of this entry »

Why Terminator Salvation Was A Disappointing Movie For Me

I hold sci-fi films in incredibly high regard. I can watch the latest hundred million dollar Hollywood blockbuster, or I can enjoy the equally inept yet financially limited straight to video releases. I can even enjoy the pains delivered by Uwe Boll. But, nothing has disappointed me lately as much as watching the fourth instalment of the Terminator franchise.

I fell in love with this dystopic series when I was 6 years old, and first witnessed the original Terminator. The Read the rest of this entry »

The Rise and Fall of Star Wars

The Rise and Fall of Star Wars

Ahh Star Wars. The original three were my favourite movies as a child and are still some of my favourite movies to this day. The universe, the look and the stories as well as the characters were brilliant. Which little boy, or even grown man, doesn’t want to see huge battles in space between futuristic spaceships and lightsaber battles between mystical warrior monks? I haven’t met any man who doesn’t instantly become 10 years old again when watching those movies Read the rest of this entry »

There and back again…

There and back again...

It has been many years since my love affair with the stories of J.R.R Tolkien began. As a young lad I read the Hobbit after my father recommended it to me. He was also a huge fan of Tolkien and a world filled with mystical monsters, wizards, elves and heroes certainly appealed to me at a tender age and is the reason why I still love fantasy novels to this day.

After my first read through I was hooked. I Read the rest of this entry »

A Great Tea Empire

A Great Tea Empire

Tea: forever disputed, never quite out of the public-eye…yes, the celebrity of the hot-drinks world. The Joan Collins of liquid in a mug–

For all the responsibilities asked of it, tea has never veered from its wholesome roots. And Tea has long had a mountain of pressure on its shoulders; not only in the UK, but anywhere where people were able to appreciate only the finest of things. So many reasons for existence, AND such cultural significance! Would the British Read the rest of this entry »

Hands Up Please

Written by admin at 7:13 am

Put your hand up if you understand Global Warming? My mind’s eye doesn’t see many hands. I didn’t say “Do you realize that the glaciers are melting?” I said the equivalent of “Do you get all the technical science stuff behind climate change?” Don’t worry if you don’t, barely anyone does. For those reasons it’s not hard for the people in the know—half of whom argue that the other half in the know aren’t in the know at all—to pull Read the rest of this entry »
