It's All Going On

Have you noticed? We are in the future already. Stem-cell research, prosthetic limbs for running which are actually more energy efficient than the limbs nature gave us, heart-transplants; about the only thing we can’t do yet, it seems, is the personality transplant—but I’m sure it won’t be long until that happens (I mean, have you seen the increase in popularity of Botox Manchester lately?) Yes, over-night that boring mate you had will become the most interesting person you’ve ever known.

Can it be done? Can this novel be made into a movie that can do it justice? The answer is a difficult one to deduce. If one considers the mess that was David Lynch’s attempt in 1984 then the answer is a resounding, no. However, with the right budget, today’s technology and the wealth of acting talent there is, there should be no reason why a successful attempt can’t be made.

For all the errors in the 1984 Dune movie, Read the rest of this entry »
