The Trouble With Modern Science Fiction.
When I think about sci-fi and fantasy films and television (which I do quite regularly), it is normally the older titles that come to mind.
As far as I am concerned, the use of cgi’s is pretty unimportant. The best science fiction needs only imagination. Computer graphics are over-rated and often obscure the story itself. Really imaginative programmes or films are not reliant on special effects and billion-dollar budgets. A good example would be Dr Who.
I don’t have enough interest in the modern Dr Who to know what sort of money it costs to film a single show but I am fairly sure that it is a world away from the budget of the programme when it starred Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker. I have very fond memories of watching the show each week as a child from behind the sofa. The sets were very basic and the special effects were often laughable but it still succeeded in scaring me silly.
Proper film and television that uses good actors and imaginative storylines is sadly not as popular these days. As far as I am concerned, I find a lot of modern sci-fi very lacking. For example Battlestar Galactica have you tried to follow it? It just kind of doesn’t cut the mustard.
Quick thing what do you think of the patient photos on the laser treatment page, I think she looks worse after! We must have some better ones somewhere.
